Route
High season tour (from 03/16 to 11/15) :
9:30 am : Pickup in front of Avignon tourist office (address: 41 cours Jean Jaurès)
10:00 am : Photo-stop at the Roman arch of Orange (30 minutes drive), 20 metres high and dating back to the 1st century AD. There, you will also be able to listen to the different audio machines placed all around the arch and narrating the building’s history. Duration: between 20 and 30 minutes.
10:45 am : Audio guided tour of the Roman theatre of Orange (admission tickets included in the price) with its impressive stage wall (35 metres/115 feet high and 104 metres/341 feet long). The theatre was built in the 1st century BC and can contain 9,000 people. It is part of UNESCO World Heritage since 1981, just like the Roman arch. Duration: about 1 hour.
12:00 pm : Provençal picnic in a park at St.Eutrope hill, on the heights of Orange. The picnic is only made up of local goods (instance: hard-boiled eggs from the farm, tapenade, anchovy purée, fresh goat cheese, seasonal fruits, grape juice). Duration: about 1 hour.
1:30/1:45 pm : Stroll at the Pont du Gard (30 minutes drive), magnificent building which was part of a 52-kilometer long Roman aqueduct which was used to supply Nîmes with water from around Uzès. The Pont du Gard is listed at the UNESCO World Heritage since 1985. With around 50 metres/164 feet high on 3 levels, it was build in the 1st century AD. Duration: between 40 minutes and 1 hour.
2:45/3:00 pm : Photo-stop in front of the Maison Carrée of Nîmes (30 minutes drive), former temple dedicated to the Emperor Augustus and built astride the 1st centuries BC and AD. The Maison Carrée is listed at the UNESCO World Heritage since September 2023. Duration: about 15 minutes.
3:15/3:30 pm : Audio guided tour of the Amphitheatre of Nîmes (admission tickets included in the price), built between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD and containing up to 20,000 people. It is listed at the UNESCO World Heritage since September 2023, like the Maison Carrée. Duration: about 1 hour.
4:30/4:45 pm : Back to Avignon (1 hour drive). Arrival in front of the tourist office at around 5:30/5:45 pm.

6:15/6:30 pm : Back to Avignon (30 minutes drive). Arrival in front of the tourist office at around 6:45/7:00 pm.
